How To Make Perfect Quinoa in the Instant Pot

Rinse the quinoa under cold running water to remove quinoa&#x27;s natural coating, called saponin, which can make it taste bitter or soapy. Some boxed quinoa is often pre-rinsed, it doesn&#x27;t hurt to give the seeds an additional rinse.

Add quinoa and liquid to the Instant Pot. Turn valve to sealing.

Cover and cook 2 minutes on high pressure and then let pressure release naturally, about 10 minutes.

Fluff with a fork then set aside to cool.

Rinse quinoa in a fine-mesh sieve, if desired (most brands come pre-rinsed to remove bitter coating called saponin).

Toast quinoa by cooking over medium heat in a pressure cooker, for 5 minutes, stirring often to prevent burning. (use the Sauté function on the Instant Pot)

Add the water and bring to high pressure.

If using an Instant Pot, set the timer for 1 minute on Manual/High Pressure.

If using a stovetop pressure cooker, set a timer for 1 minute after high pressure has been reached.

Allow for a natural pressure release after the cooking time has elapsed.

If the pressure hasn't released naturally after 15 minutes, release any remaining pressure manually.

Fluff the quinoa with a fork, and serve immediately or place into freezer bags for long-term freezer storage.

Rinse Quinoa: Most packaged quinoa has been pre-rinsed to remove the saponin to reduce the bitterness. If necessary, give it a quick rinse with cold water, and drain really well.

Toast Quinoa (Optional Step): Press the Saute button on Instant Pot, then wait 1 minute. Pour in 1 tbsp (15ml) olive oil, then add in the quinoa. Toast the quinoa until fragrant (~2 - 3 mins).

Pressure Cook Quinoa: Add in ¼ tsp fine salt + 1 cup (250ml) unsalted chicken stock or cold water. Use a wooden spoon to scrub the bottom to make sure no quinoa is stuck to the bottom. Close lid and pressure cook:Pressure Cooking Method:-Toasted Quinoa: High Pressure 0 minute, then 10 minutes Natural Release-Non-Toasted Quinoa: High Pressure 0 minute, then 12 minutes Natural ReleaseRelease the remaining pressure after the natural release time.

Instant Pot Mexican Quinoa Recipe

14.5 oz can diced tomatoes

avocado (for topping)

shredded cheese (for topping)

chopped red onion (for topping)

Make sure the stainless steel insert is in your Instant Pot. Press saute setting. Add oil to pot and heat it up. Add minced garlic, onion and pepper. Saute for 1 to 2 minutes. Add butter and saute until the onion is translucent. Press "cancel/off" button.

Add corn and beans to Instant Pot and stir well. Sprinkle taco seasoning, salt and pepper. Add quinoa and water and stir everything together.

Add diced tomatoes (with liquid) in the center, on top of other ingredients. DO NOT STIR.&nbsp;

Close the lid, switch the valve to sealing position. Make sure the IP is set to cook at HIGH pressure. Set timer to 1 minute. The Instant Pot will beep and start coming to pressure.

Once the timer is done, press "cancel/off" button. Let the pressure release naturally. Open the lid away from your face and stir quinoa.

Serve with shredded cheese, chopped red onion, cilantro, avocado and lime wedges.

How to Cook Red Quinoa in the Instant Pot

Place quinoa, water, salt into the inner pot of your Instant Pot.

Stir, then put the lid on your Instant Pot and make sure the vent is sealed.

Cook on manual high-pressure for 14 minutes.

Let the pressure release naturally for 10 minutes and then open the vent and release the steam.

Optionally, drizzle with a touch of olive oil and then fluff the quinoa with a fork before serving.

Pressure Cooker Quinoa Recipe (Instant Pot Method)

Transfer it to the Instant pot, pour in the liquid, and a pinch of salt, if using.

Secure the lid. Move the steam release valve to Sealing position.

Select Manual/Pressure Cook to cook on high pressure for 1 minute for white quinoa and 3 minutes for red, black, or tricolor quinoa.

When the cooking cycle is complete, let the pressure naturally release for 7-8 minutes, then move the steam release valve to Venting position to release any remaining pressure.

Carefully open the lid. Fluff it with a fork and serve.

Here's how to cook perfect Instant Pot quinoa! Cooking quinoa in a pressure cooker works every time, and it's a convenient hands off method.

Instant Pot Quinoa (Pressure Cooker)

Use a strainer to rinse the quinoa under cold water, then shake off as much water as possible.

Add the quinoa, vegetable broth, and salt to the Instant Pot. Lock the lid of the Instant Pot. Place the pressure release handle (vent) in the “Sealing” position.

Cook on high pressure 3 minutes

Press the Pressure Cook button, making sure the “High Pressure” setting is selected, and set the time. Note that it takes about 5 minutes for the pot to “preheat” and come up to pressure before it starts cooking. (During cooking, avoid touching the metal part of the lid.)

Natural release for 8 minutes

 After the Instant Pot beeps, set a timer and wait for 8 minutes to let the Instant Pot naturally release pressure.  Then vent any remaining steam by moving the vent to “Venting”, covering your hand with a towel or hot pad. Never put your hands or face near the vent when releasing steam. (The pressure indicator in the lid may drop on its own during this time, meaning that there is no remaining steam in the pot.)

Open the lid and fluff the quinoa with a fork. Serve immediately, or store in the refrigerator for 3 to 4 days.

How to Make Quinoa Perfectly!
INGREDIENTS: 
1 cup quinoa (white, red, or mixed)
2 cups water
Kosher salt

METHOD:
1. Rinse the quinoa and drain completely.
2. Place quinoa in a saucepan with 2 cups water and 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat to low. Cover the pot and simmer where the water is just bubbling for about 15 to 20 minutes, until the water has been completely absorbed. (Check by pulling back the quinoa with a fork to see if water remains.)
3. Turn off the heat and let sit with the lid on to steam for 5 minutes, then fluff the quinoa with a fork. If desired, add additional kosher salt and pepper to taste.

How to Make Quinoa Perfectly + Loaded Quinoa Tacos

Easy Instant Pot brown rice and quinoa, fluffy and perfectly cooked. Use white or red quinoa.
To make healthy burrito bowls, follow the recipe below that adds spices, black beans, shredded cabbage and cheese.
*This recipe was updated on 3/24/21 to decrease the amount of water from 2 cups to 1 3/4 cups. 
Total Instant Pot Cooking Time: 10 minutes to reach pressure + 22 minutes cooking time + 10 minute natural release

Brown Rice with Quinoa (Instant Pot)

garlic cloves, finely chopped

brown rice (long or short grain)

garlic powder

cumin

chili powder

If the package of quinoa doesn't say that the quinoa is rinsed or pre-washed, make sure to rinse it briefly under running water. I use a mesh strainer for this.

Heat the oil in the Instant Pot, using the Saute function.

Add the garlic and saute about 30 seconds.

Add the water, brown rice, quinoa, and salt. Stir. 

If making burrito bowls, also add garlic powder, cumin and chili powder.

Press the Manual button and program the Instant Pot to cook for 22 minutes on high pressure. Make sure the lid is locked in place and the steam valve is in the sealed position.  

After the cooking time is done, let the pressure release naturally for about 10 minutes. 

If you're making burrito filling, stir in the black beans, shredded cabbage and grated cheese. 

I did use the tricolored quinoa with the brown rice and it turned out good!

I didn't know you could cook the two grains together in an instant pot! Such a time saver!

I used my instant pot preset for rice, and it was perfect. 12 minutes and slow release. I can't imagine how overcooked it would be a 22 minutes and don't plan to find out.

Last time I made this it was a little soggy. Do you know how to fix this? I used short grain brown rice and cooked it for the 22 minutes and let it naturally release for about 3 minutes and then released the pressure.

I've made this a few times as written - cooking for 22 minutes and then QR after 10 min. The only change is I saute the garlic in a little bit of broth rather than the oil. This is one of my favorite recipes!
