carton (32 ounces) reduced-sodium chicken broth

I made this for the very first time. Was good but, my soup looked more brown than green. Don't know what I did wrong. Help ??

Hey, this looks like a great recipe and I definitely intend to make it. My question is, in addition to the cubed ham, can I also use that big, otherwise useless leftover ham bone to sit in the pea soup in my crock pot, and then take the bone out when I’m done?

Made this soup on this cold night; used leftover holiday spiral ham and we loved it. Nice touch with the rosemary; I used 1-3/4 cups of water and 1/4 cup white wine. Thank you for this great recipe. Will be making this recipe again!

I too made this for the first time and it was easy to make and it tasted delicious. My brother who lives in Canada recommended it. He said, "this recipe rivals Mum's soup for sure." Yep, it sure did, as Mum's food was always the best. Here in South Africa, we mainly use smoked bacon bones and it really boosts the flavour. Thanks for the recipe!

This is excellent! I added a couple diced potatoes, a dash of Penzy's Shallot Pepper and pinch of sea salt. I also used 3 cups of water. In place of the cooked ham I used 3 small boneless smoked pork chops.Give this one a try, you won't be sorry!

This is a wonderful thick and hearty soup... perfect  to warm you up for the cold weather we\'re having!!  I used 2 bay leaves instead of the rosemary and thyme and used all chicken broth instead of chicken broth AND water.  The soup was thick (just the way I like it!) and tasty and super easy to make!!  Next time I make it I want to use keilbasa or smoked sausage instead of ham!!   The day after I made it..... the leftover soup tasted better to me but was extremely thick and I had to add more chicken broth to it ..... but still very tasty!!

This soup was easy and fantastic! My husband, who is a split pea fanatic said it was the best split pea soup he has ever had. I did add two potatoes cubed. Very hearty! Will definitely make again!

This soup is delicious and freezes well.

I love split pea soup, and I love this recipe because it is so simple. I've made it several times and have never been disappointed. Unfortunately, I'm the only person in my house that seems to like it. Drives me crazy because I always have so much in left overs. It's a good thing I can freeze it. My only suggestion would be to add a ham hock for some extra flavor. I'm putting this in the crock pot over night tonight, so I can have it for lunch tomorrow.

Similar to my recipe, but I use less garlic. And I use leftover bone with meat on  and cook until all disintegrates. Serve with chopped green onion and asiago artisan bread.

I dont put the carrots in the entire time or they melt. And I also use all broth, no water. I take one cup of soup out and put it in a blender so its thicker. Pea soup always thickens more when you chill it. I add more broth or milk/cream to thin it. I love homemade pea soup. I always use leftover ham but the Kielbasa sounds like a great idea.

This was so incredibly easy and delicious. I used a couple bay leaves instead of rosemary because that is what my grandmother used. I was going to add the carrots late as others suggested but lost interest and forgot them entirely and it was still delicious!

This is an easy, hearty soup and tastes delicious. Wouldn't change a thing in the recipe. Bought some pre-diced vacuum-packed ham to use. Wonderful for a cold winter's supper. Will be making it often.

Perfect thick and richly satisfying meal on a cold cold winter night. Only problem I had with this was it made the whole house smell delicious all day and it takes like 8-10 hours to make so you can't have it anytime soon! I used canned chicken broth-- each can was 14.5 ounces and we were looking for 32 ounces total, oops. So I used 3 cans and just added another 1/4 of the package of split peas. Turned out great.Also I didn't have any thyme, so I substituted Basil. still yum!!

Excellent! I added a bit of heavy cream to finish it off and used a stick blender to puree the soup!
