Easy Masala Chai Recipe

cinnamon

Tbsp grated ginger ((for less intense ginger flavor, slice instead of grating))

Add cinnamon stick, cardamom pods, peppercorns, and cloves to the bowl of a mortar (or cutting board) and use pestle (or heavy pan) to slightly crush the spices. You aren’t pulverizing into a powder, just slightly crushing into small pieces (see photo).

To a medium saucepan add crushed spices, water, and grated (or sliced) ginger and bring to a boil over high heat. (Note: For a less gingery chai, reduce amount of ginger and slice rather than grating). Then reduce heat slightly to medium/medium-low and maintain a simmer for 15 minutes or until it reduces by about one-third.

Add tea (loose leaf or bags) and dairy-free milk of choice (we love light canned coconut) and lower heat to low. Cover and continue cooking for 5 minutes to allow the flavors to meld. Then turn off heat and let steep for 5 minutes more (covered) or longer for deeper flavor.

Add sweetener of choice to taste (we prefer stevia or maple syrup, but sugar is more traditional). Strain through a fine mesh strainer before serving.

Keep strained, cooled leftovers covered in the fridge up to 3-4 days. Reheat on the stovetop or in a milk frother. Not freezer friendly.

Mix all ingredients together and store in an airtight container.

Add two to three spoonfuls (or to taste) to 8oz hot water and stir.

"Maybe this is a dumb question, but what if it steeps for longer then 12 hours? Is that a bad thing? I just started my very first batch. Cant wait until I can try it in the morning!!"

"How long is it’s “shelf life” in the fridge?"

Steep the tea: Combine the tea and water in a quart-sized jar.
Cover and let steep at room temperature for at least 4 hours or up to 12 hours. The tea will become stronger and more infused the longer it stands.

Make the honey syrup: Combine the honey and water in a small glass container. Microwave for 30 seconds. Stir to dissolve the honey.
Allow to cool, then cover and refrigerate until needed. (Honey syrup will keep for about a week.)

Remove the tea bags: Once the tea has infused to your liking, remove the tea bags. The tea is ready to be used immediately, or cover and refrigerate for a week or more.

Assemble an iced chai latte: Place a few ice cubes in a glass. Pour 1 to 3 teaspoons of honey syrup over the ice cubes. Fill the glass with a cup or so of iced chai and top with as much milk as you like.
Stir to combine and taste. Add more honey syrup or milk, if desired.

This style of chai is an adaptation of traditional Indian masala chai, whose name translates from Hindi to “strong tea.” It’s rich and creamy thanks to evaporated milk and is usually made with fewer spices than masala chai. Bring 6 cups water to a boil in a medium pot or tea kettle. Add tea bags, cardamom, cinnamon, sugar, and vanilla extract and return to a boil. Stir in evaporated milk and return to a boil again, watching carefully to ensure the tea doesn’t boil over. Reduce heat to medium-low and simmer until thick, creamy, and caramel in color, about 30 minutes. (The longer the tea simmers the stronger and creamier it will be.)

Strain tea through a fine-mesh sieve into mugs; discard spices and tea bags.

This chai is definitively ginger-forward. Feel free to add a little more maple syrup if you like it on the sweeter side. This is part of BA's Best, a collection of our essential recipes.

Bring ginger, cinnamon, and 3½ cups water to a boil in a medium saucepan over medium-high heat. Lower heat and simmer rapidly, stirring occasionally, until liquid is reduced by a third and very fragrant, about 20 minutes.

Remove pan from heat, stir in tea and cardamom, and let steep 2 minutes.

Return pan to medium-high heat and stir in milk and maple syrup. Cook, stirring occasionally and keeping a close watch, until mixture begins to foam up and boil, about 5 minutes. Immediately remove from heat and let sit 5 minutes. Strain chai through a fine-mesh sieve into a teapot or pitcher and serve.

I love chai tea and since I've started making my own I prefer mine over all the others. You can adjust the spices to suit your taste, so use this recipe as a stepping stone to your perfect chai!

I love to start my day with a chai tea, iced in the summer and hot in the winter. It’s cheaper to make your own Instant Pot chai tea concentrate than it is to buy just one serving at your local coffee shop. Plus you can make yours with black tea, green tea, decaf tea, or roobios.

Enjoy a quick cup of masala chai or a chai latte using homemade Chai Concentrate. The tea is brewed in small batches and infused with fragrant chai spices.

In a mortar and pestle, crush the knob of ginger into chunks to release the juices and expose more surface area. Add the cinnamon sticks, star anise, cloves, roses, cardamom pods, black peppercorns, and ginger into the mortar and pestle and lightly crush them so they release their oils. Lastly, use a microplane to grate a bit of nutmeg.

Transfer all of the spices from the mortar and pestle to a medium sized pot. On medium heat, dry roast the spices for a minute, or until they&#39;re fragrant.

Pour the water in with the spices and bring it to a light rolling boil for 3-5 minutes, or until fragrant.

At this point, add in the black tea leaves and mix really well. Simmer the spices with the black tea for 5 minutes. Be careful not to boil it for too long, otherwise it will be very bitter.

Remove the pot from heat and pour in the sugar. Stir until the sugar has fully dissolved.

Allow the spices and tea to steep in the hot water for at least 15 minutes. Then, strain the chai concentrate into a sanitized pitcher with a lid. Store in the fridge for up to five days.

Use a 1:1 ratio of concentrate to milk. The concentrate can be served steamed, heated, or chilled.

Place in sealed container until ready to use.

Easy Pumpkin Chai Latte

Make your own chai concentrate at home with fresh herbs and spices for more flavor than you've ever experienced!

black tea (0.51)

Place four cups of water in a medium pot. Add the cinnamon sticks, tea bags, whole cloves and ginger (peel and slice the fresh ginger).

Bring the pot up to a boil, place a lid on top, reduce the heat and simmer for five minutes to make sure it is brewed strong.

Remove the pot from the heat and carefully strain out the tea bags and spices (Place a colander over a bowl and pour it in). Using whole spices not only adds more flavor but makes straining them out much much easier.

While the spiced tea is still hot, stir in the sugar and vanilla. Store the chai concentrate in the refrigerator until you are ready to use.

To make a drink, combine one part chai concentrate with one part milk. Heat and serve!

These are the best chai cookies! They are super chewy cookies, made with warm fall spices and brown butter, and rolled in spiced sugar. They&#39;re the perfect cookie for fall and the Christmas holiday season!

Chai Cookies

tbsp (75 g) granulated white sugar

tsp cinnamon

tsp ground ginger

unsalted butter

(250 g) all purpose flour, spooned and leveled

tsp baking powder

tsp baking soda

tsp salt

(275 g) light brown sugar

egg yolks, at room temprature

vanilla

Add the granulated white sugar, cinnamon, ginger, allspice, nutmeg, cardamom and cloves to a bowl. Whisk to combine.

For the Spiced Sugar

Add the butter to a pot and heat it over medium heat. Allow the butter to melt and come to a simmer. Simmer until the butter is foamy, giving off a nutty scent and has browned. The whole process should take about 5-8 minutes. Remove the butter from the heat and transfer it to a small bowl. Pop it in the fridge and allow it to cool completely until it is solid but still malleable.

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Line two baking sheets with parchment paper and set aside.

In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, cinnamon, ginger, allspice, nutmeg, cardamom, cloves, baking soda, baking powder and salt. Then set aside the flour mixture.

In a large bowl whip the cooled brown butter with an electric mixer on high speed until it is fluffy, about 1 minute. Then add in the brown sugar and mix on high speed until creamed together, about 2 minutes. (You can also use the bowl of a stand mixer fit with a paddle attachment.)
