Granny Smith Apples

nutmeg

Peel, core, and thinly slice the apples - about 1/4-inch slices.

Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Add the butter and melt. Add the apples and cook for about 5 minutes, stirring frequently.

Add the brown sugar, cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, and salt. Stir to coat. Reduce the heat to medium-low and cook the apples until tender to your liking- stirring frequently.

This recipe is perfect for breakfast or a side dish.

Tasty Skillet Fried Apples

In a skillet over medium heat, add bacon drippings and margarine.  Add apple slices, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg and salt.  Stir well to make sure apples slices are covered with spices and brown sugar.  Bring to a boil and cover.

Cut heat back to simmer and cook for 20 – 25 minutes until apples are soft but not mushy.   Remove from pan and spoon any remaining liquid over apples.

Buttery skillet fried apples are a classic Southern treat. Fresh apples softened in butter and mixed with sugar and cinnamon. So delicious and they can be ready in just 15 minutes!

Small Batch Fried Apples

Peel, core, and slice the apples and place them into a medium-sized bowl. Pour lemon juice over the apple slices to prevent browning

Melt the butter in a 10-inch skillet over medium heat.

Stir in the brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Cook, stirring for 30 seconds.

Add the sliced apples and stir to coat.

Cook and stir for 12-15 minutes, until apples have softened. The exact timing will depend on the size of your apple slices.

Remove from heat and serve warm.

Air Fryer Fried Apples

Granny Smith apples (peeled, cored, and sliced)

sea salt

maple syrup, (divided use)

unsalted butter, (melted)

Pre-heat the air fryer to 400F degrees.

Peel, core, and slice apples.

In a large bowl add the sliced apples, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt. Mix to evenly combine.

Coat the apple mixture with 1 tablespoon of maple syrup and the melted butter. Stir to combine until the apple slices are evenly coated.

When the air fryer is preheated, add the apple slices in a single layer and cook at 380 degrees for 5 minutes.

After 5 minutes of cooking, flip the apples.

Cook for another 5-7 minutes until the apples appear golden.

Drizzle with the remaining maple syrup and serve immediately with ice cream or whipped cream, if desired.

Fried Apple Crisp

apples (sliced)

cinnamon (or more if you like strong spices)

Tbsp. brown sugar

vanilla

water

oat granola (low sugar

pecans (chopped)

Tbsp. flour

Slice apples and place in a 12 inch cast iron skillet.

Sprinkle apples with cinnamon, brown sugar and vanilla, then mix well.

Add 6 pats of butter and fry apples over medium heat for 15 minutes until soft.

Stir apples frequently during cooking. Reduce heat if necessary to avoid burning.

After frying, add 1 cup of water and mix well.

Allow apples to simmer while making topping.

FRIED APPLES

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Combine granola, chopped pecans, cinnamon, brown sugar and flour in a large bowl.

Add softened butter and mix together with hands until crumbly.

Sprinkle topping over apples in skillet.

Bake at 350 degrees for 15 minutes until golden brown and crunchy.

Cracker Barrel Fried Apples

Cut your apples into wedges, either with an apple cutter or small knife.

In a medium-sized skillet, combine the two cups of apple juice and sliced apples.

Turn the heat to medium/low until the juice starts to simmer.

Cook for about 20 minutes, until they are fork tender. Stir and turn the apples occasionally.

Remove the apples with a slotted spoon and place in an oven safe dish. Move the pan off the heat while you prepare the sauce ingredients.

In a blender, combine the remaining 1/2 cup apple juice, apple pie spice, cornstarch, and sugar. Blend a few seconds until smooth.

Put the skillet back on the heat and whisk the apple and cornstarch mixture into the hot apple juice. Turn the heat up to medium/high until it begins to bubble. Stir continuously until the sauce thickens.

Pour the hot sauce over the cooked apples and serve.

Easy Fried Apples Recipe

apples (Granny Smith)

granulated white sugar (granulated, white)

brown sugar (packed)

Vanilla Ice cream

Peel, core and slice the apples into even pieces.

Get prepped

Melt the butter in a large skillet over medium heat.

Add the apples, cover, and cook over low heat for 15-20 minutes, until the apples are soft. Stir often so they don’t burn.

Cook the apples

Mix the white sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg and salt together in a bowl.

Add to the apples and stir. Cook for another 5-10 minutes until the sugar is dissolved and are syrupy.

Add remaining ingredients

Serve over ice-cream, or as a side.

Made these using a Cortland variety of apple. Served as a side with ribs smoked on the grill. A big hit!

I made fried apples for the first time ever using this recipe because I liked the idea of both white and brown sugar. These were the best apples I’ve ever eaten. Plus they are super easy to make. Will never buy premade again

As a true Southerner from North Carolina, we never put any spices in but a small dash of vanilla extract. And I would use much less sugar too (maybe 1/2 cup sugar max)for 6 apples and it be plenty sweet. We always had w/any pork dish and esp good with country ham and buttermilk biscuits! This recipe is the bomb!! I’ve been cooking since I was 8 or younger and I’m almost 58. That being said the ingredients to this recipe are spot on. The only difference I made is I didn’t cover them. We like our fried apples carameliized so I don’t cover them and keep cooking them until they’re sticky like. This is how all the older generation fixed them. I would strongly suggest trying them this way.

How to make Fried Apples

This Fried Apples Recipe starts with fresh apples softened in creamy butter that are coated in warm spice and light brown sugar, then pan-fried to crisp and caramelized perfection! This is a deliciously classic southern treat made in just 20 minutes! 

Fried Apples Recipe

ground cinnamon (or more to taste)

ground nutmeg (or more to taste)

lemon juice (or more to taste)

Cut the apples into quarter and cut out the cores but don&#39;t peel them.  Slice the quarters the long way so you get 3 or 4 thick slices out of each one.

When bubbling, add the apples slices and turn them with a spatula to coat with the butter.

If you cover them with a lid for a couple of minutes, they will steam and cook a bit faster.  However, uncovered they will turn a lovely golden brown even though they cook slower.

Once the apples are soft, about 10 minutes, sprinkle the sugar over them or add more if you would like then turn them over again to be sure they have sugar on both sides.

Sprinkle the spices on top and stir them a little.

When the apples are smelling amazing and looking caramelized they are done and ready to serve.  Squeeze some lemon juice over the top and serve em up hot y&#39;all.

Also fried apple shortcake! I make sweet biscuits and split then layer on the apples and whipped cream. Garnish with a sprinkle of cinnamon.

Yum-liscious!!  Very easy. I used butter, the next time I cook some bacon I will try that!  I also used honey with a little cinnamon instead of sugar.
