Taste and adjust to your preference (more horseradish if you want it spicier and more ketchup if you want it mellower).&nbsp;

The sauce can be made and refrigerated for several days in advance.&nbsp; Serve cold with shrimp.

Food Network Kitchen’s Shrimp Cocktail.

Put the water, carrot, celery, onion, garlic, lemon, parsley, thyme, and bay leaves in a pot and bring to a boil over high heat. Lower the heat to a simmer, set a cover on top slightly ajar, and cook for 10 to 30 minutes.

Drop the shrimp into the liquid and turn off the heat. Cook the shrimp, stirring occasionally, until they curl and turn pink, about 2 to 2 1/2 minutes for medium shrimp, 3 minutes for large ones. Drain and cool to room temperature. Peel the shrimp and remove the vein along the curve of the shrimp, if desired. Refrigerate if not serving right away. If refrigerated, bring the shrimp to room temperature 20 minutes before serving.

To serve put the cocktail sauce in a medium bowl and surround with the shrimp, or loop the shrimp over the edge of an individual cocktail glass and top with the sauce. Garnish with the lemon and serve.

Optional Tip: To de-vein the shrimp before cooking, hold a shrimp between the thumb and forefinger with the rounded side of the shrimp upward. Place the pointed end of a wooden skewer at the junction of the second and third segments of the shrimp shell, about 1/8-inch down from the top. Gently push the skewer through the shell and then lift up to remove the vein.

Combine the ketchup, lemon zest and juice, horseradish, and Worcestershire sauce in a small bowl. Add hot sauce, if desired. Mix well, then refrigerate until ready to serve.

Wonderful, especially the Court Bouillon prep. However I peeled the shrimp prior to cooking including the tail (I don't need a shrimp shell on the tail of my shrimp, and none of my guests have ever complained) Then prior to adding the ingredients to the water I boil the shrimp shells for several minutes to extract their flavor, I used a spider to remove the shells and proceeded with the Bouillon as described, plus a teaspoon of red pepper flakes. 10 people, 6 pounds of 20/25 sized shrimp, empty plate less than 2 minutes.<br />

Love this recipe!  When I cook the shrimp I just drain it after the 3 minutes and put everything together in a bowl till the next day. Then I shell the shrimp and serve.  It is so good!! Do yourself a favor and make 2 lbs!! It’s that good!

You forgot to say when to add the kosher salt. I am going to add it to the boil. 

What are we supposed to do with the 1 tablespoon of kosher salt? 

I only made the cocktail sauce, since I had cooked shrimp on hand.  The sauce was delicious.  I have never made it myself before, tho I cook a lot.  I thought it was terrific, and the freshness of the ingredients was an improvement even over my usual favorite: Bristol Farms Cocktail Sauce!

Yummm! I'll always cook shrimp this way from now on! The flavor the broth imparts is unbelievable! Well worth the extra time!

Wow!  The broth is worth the effort.......and I was skeptical.  Take the time and follow as written.  If using frozen Shrimp, be sure to thaw, rinse and rinse again to remove the salty/sodium.

Peel and devein the shrimp, leaving the tails on. Place them on a sheet pan with the olive oil, salt, and pepper and spread them in 1 layer. Roast for 8 to10 minutes, just until pink and firm and cooked through. Set aside to cool.

For the sauce, combine the chili sauce, ketchup, horseradish, lemon juice, Worcestershire sauce, and hot sauce. Serve as a dip with the shrimp.

For the shrimp: In a large saucepan of water, add the bay leaves and black peppercorns. Bring to a boil. Line a sheet pan with paper towels.

For the sauce: In a medium bowl, combine the ketchup, horseradish, lemon juice, chile sauce, Worcestershire sauce and hot sauce.

Add the shrimp to the water and cook at a very low simmer, stirring, until the centers are fully cooked and no longer translucent, about 3 minutes. Transfer the shrimp to the lined sheet pan. Chill for an hour before serving.

Serve the shrimp with the cocktail sauce and lemon wedges.

Marijuana Recipes: Cannabis Infused Classic Shrimp Cocktail

horseradish (more or less to taste)

hot sauce (such as Tabasco, to taste)

Stir together ketchup, horseradish, garlic, Worcestershire sauce, black pepper, and cannabis oil until well combined.

Add chopped celery to the bottom of 6 large stemmed cocktail glasses – Margarita or large wine goblets work well.

Spoon cocktail sauce over the celery.

Balance cooked shrimp and lemon slice on the glass rim and serve.

Sprinkle Old Bay seasoning

Using a pair of scissors or a serrated knife, make an incision down the backside of the shrimp, following the intestinal track. Eviscerate shrimp and rinse under cool water leaving shells intact.

Place cleaned shrimp into a bowl with brine and refrigerate mixture for 20 to 25 minutes. While shrimp are brining, place tomatoes, chili sauce, horseradish, sugar, pepper, and salt in food processor and blend until smooth. Refrigerate cocktail sauce until ready to serve.

Place a baking sheet or broiler pan under oven broiler and preheat for 5 minutes. Remove shrimp from brine and drain thoroughly. Rinse the shrimp under cold water and dry on paper towels. In a large bowl, toss shrimp with olive oil and sprinkle with Old Bay seasoning, if desired.

Place shrimp onto a sizzling sheet pan and return to broiler immediately. After 2 minutes, turn the shrimp with a pair of tongs. Return the shrimp to broiler for 1 minute. Transfer to a cold cookie sheet. Refrigerate immediately.

Once shrimp have chilled, arrange with cocktail sauce in a martini glass or as desired.

Christmas Eve with family and the shrimp cocktail was a winner.  The cocktail sauce has the right amount of heat.

Brining and broiling made a huge difference! Everyone wanted the recipe.

My oven has a very aggressive broiler (default temp is 550)  so I limited my broil to 450.<br /><br />In my case my shells were very thin and they separated and burned a little even at this lower temp.  I will likely drop the temp to 400 and increase the cook time to 2 mins a side.<br /><br />Otherwise - these are awesome.  In my case, I used about a heaping tablespoon of Old Bay - anyone that uses Old Bay knows a "sprinkle" is pretty much worthless :)

This was amazing.  The brine really enhances the shrimp.  I am saving this recipe for all my future shrimp cocktail needs!!

This has really spoiled me. I can't eat prepackaged shrimp anymore. This is really great stuff.

I was going to boil the shrimp and use bottled cocktail sauce, but thought to consult Alton Brown.  These were so good I went out the next day and bought more shrimp just to do it again.  Used local shrimp and garnished with finely chopped dill.  This is a really great recipe.

Mexican Shrimp Cocktail. This shrimp cocktail is perfectly tart, spicy, and fresh! Cold and refreshing this is a perfect dish for a hot day!

Mexican Shrimp Cocktail

cucumber

jalapeno (seeds & membranes removed, diced)

roma tomatoes (diced)

onion

clamato juice

tbsp lime juice (freshly squeezed)

½ tsp black pepper

hot sauce (as desired)

Cook Shrimp

Bring a medium size pot of water to boil (can add any aromatics as desired: onion, garlic, cilantro, lemon juice, etc). Add the shrimp and cook for 2-3 minutes until the shrimp is pink in color. Remove the shrimp from the water and place in an ice bath or rinse with cold water.

Combine Ingredients

In a large glass bowl combine the diced cucumber, jalapeno, tomatoes, red onion, and cilantro. Stir together. Add in the shrimp.

Create Sauce

Pour the clamato juice and lime juice over the ingredients in the bowl. Add the salt and pepper. Taste and adjust if needed. Add sugar if desired to cut the acidity. Add hot sauce as desired.

Shrimp Cocktail with Cocktail Sauce

Rinse shrimp and set aside. Fill a separate bowl with 4 cups ice and water for after the shrimp is cooked.

Devein the shrimp. Use kitchen shears or a pairing knife to slice a 1/4-inch deep slit into the back of your shrimp. Use the tip of a knife or a toothpick to pull out the black vein. Not all shrimp will have a black vein which is nothing to worry about. Keep the shells on for cooking for maximum flavor.

Fill a small pot or large saucepan with water. Squeeze lemon juice into the water and add in the lemon itself. Season the water with salt and black peppercorns. Bring to a boil over high heat.

Once boiling, add in the shrimp. Cook 2 to 2 1/2 minutes until shrimp turn pink and are no longer translucent. Drain the shrimp and immediately transfer to the prepared ice water to stop the cooking process and cool quickly. Remove the peels from the shrimp. Refrigerate cooked shrimp until ready to serve.

For the cocktail sauce, in a small bowl whisk together ketchup (or chili sauce), lemon juice, worcestershire sauce, horseradish, and 1 to 2 dashes of tabasco sauce. Chill in the refrigerator until ready to serve.

Serve shrimp cold with cocktail sauce for dipping.

Mix all the cocktail sauce ingredients; chili garlic sauce, ketchup, lemon zest and juice, Worcestershire sauce, prepared horseradish, celery, Tabasco hot sauce in a small bowl.

Keep chilled in the fridge, use within a week.

Thaw shrimp according to package instructions, then rinse under cold water and thoroughly pat dry with paper towels. Place shrimp on a large rimmed baking sheet, drizzle with 1 1/2 Tbsp olive oil and sprinkle on 1/2 tsp salt and 1/2 tsp black pepper. Stir to combine then arrange shrimp in a single layer.

Bake at 450˚F for 8-10 min or until shrimp turn pink and are just cooked through.* As soon as they come out of the oven, test a shrimp for doneness then transfer all shrimp to a serving platter. If they stay on the hot baking sheet, they can get overcooked.

Combine all of the Cocktail Sauce ingredients, adding horseradish and hot sauce to taste (Add more if you love cocktail sauce with a spicy kick and less if you prefer a mild sauce). Cover and refrigerate sauce and shrimp for at least an hour or overnight. Serve chilled.
