I never liked tuna melts until I tried this recipe! WOW it was phenomenal. one of the best sandwiches I've had in a long time. Will <strong>definitely</strong> be making this again, and soon!

Great recipe, but the bread did not toast or even get brown in the oven. After 10 minutes, I took it out and fried it on the stove.

I must admit that I was a bit wary of adding pickles and lemon juice (as well as pepper) into a tuna melt, but I thought I would try it once.  I did and I am very happy that I did.  It was delicious and I won't go back.

This is wonderful!! I cheat by using dill relish and freeze dried chopped red onions. As someone else has noted - be sure to preheat the pan in the oven if you want your bread nice and brown. Better yet - flip it halfway through. YUM!

The overall recipe was great, but the tuna was way too acidic. Between the lemon juice, pickles, and red pepper flakes, it was too much. I would definitely make it again, but with a different recipe for the tuna.

Delicious! I didn’t have celery so I used cucumber for the crunch. Muenster cheese instead of cheddar. 
The lemon juice really brightened this up! I’ll eat tuna any way but this really elevated it ❤️❤️

This is the first tuna melt I’ve eaten and it’s super delicious! Just try the recipe. I use potato rolls for my bread and it is quite delightful.

ive never had a tuna melt before but i decided to make one since it’s all foods i like. it was really good! i added a pickle spear but followed the rest of the recipe as written. will definitely make this again tomorrow.

I totally recommend this recipe, wow! I found the sandwich toasts and melts much better if you only broil it and flip to after a minute or so, depending on your oven. I have a gas oven and I broiled the sandwich for 1 1/2 mins on each side. So yum!

The celery, pickle and onion hook this melt up with the perfect amount of crunch. Loved the addition of red pepper flakes which added a nice

Delish! 😉 I made it my own a by adjusting just a tad. I did a little more tuna and a little less mayo. Didn’t use red pepper flakes. I also removed the seeds from the pickles and used 3 spears. After the 5 min baking, I broiled on each side to toast the bread a bit.

This Tuna Melt Is What We Crave When We Need Comfort Food

Tuna Melt is the ultimate sandwich with a flavorful tuna fish mixture, slices of cheddar cheese, freshly sliced tomatoes all melted together in a skillet on a thick, crispy golden bread. This sandwich will literally melt in your mouth!

Ultimate Tuna Melt

tuna fish, drained)

celery (finely chopped)

red onion (finely chopped)

Tablespoon dijon mustard

Tablespoons parsley (chopped)

salt and pepper

bread (I used French bread)

cheddar cheese (more

butter (softened)

In a medium sized bowl combine the tuna, mayonnaise, celery, red onion, dijon mustard, parsley, salt and pepper.

Butter each slice of bread.  Putting the butter side down add the cheese on the unbuttered side.  Add the tuna mixture on top.  Top with tomato and additional cheese.

Preheat a skillet to medium heat.  Add the sandwich on the skillet and heat for about 2-3 minutes until cheese starts to melt and it is golden brown.  Flip to the other side and cook until the cheese is fully melted and sandwich is golden brown.

Skillet Method

Preheat a broiler.  Spread the bread butter side up and toast for a couple of minutes.  Top with cheese, tuna mixture and Broil for 2-3 miutes until cheese is melted.

cheese (gouda

milk (reduced fat, warm (120 to 130 degrees F*))

yeast (dry, fast acting (or one tablespoon))

sugar

olive oil (light)

honey (light)

eggs (small/medium)

flour (approx (2 parts bread flour +

salt

wheat bran (or oat bran, optional)

bread flour

egg (whisked)

yogurt (Greek, reduced fat)

sour cream (light)

dill (fresh, chopped)

lemon juice

lemon zest

Garnish (optional - drizzle of olive oil, red pepper flakes)

Heat the olive oil in a pan. Add the onions and sauté until translucent. Then add the garlic and sauté a few minutes.

Next add the celery and sauté 2 to 3 minutes. Then add tomatoes and sauté until they start to soften.

Add the olives, capers, herbs and stir. Turn off the heat.

Drain tuna meat from the cans very well and break it up.

Add tuna meat to the sautéed mixture. Season well with pepper and salt as per taste and combine the mixture.

HOW TO MAKE TUNA MELT FILLING

Scatter the yeast over warm milk. Then sprinkle sugar on the top. Let it stand for 10 to 15 minutes in a warm dark place until the yeast foams up on the surface.

Then add olive oil, honey, 2 eggs, and about 3½ cups of the flour, salt and mix gently.

When the mixture is loosely combined let it stand for a few minutes to help the flour to absorb the moisture. Then add the bran and mix it in.

Next add another half cup flour or more, making sure to add as needed to make a dough.

Knead it well for about 5 minutes. It is okay if it is a little sticky. It is important to make sure that the dough is not very dense. So try to use as little flour as possible to make this dough.

I use KitchenAid Stand Mixer to make this dough but you can also make it by hand.

Let the dough rise and double in size in a dark warm place. The time required for this rise may vary between 1 to 2 hours or more.

HOW TO MAKE CRESCENT RING DOUGH

Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C).

After the dough has doubled in size, punch it down to release the air spaces. Divide the dough into 2 portions and let it rest.

On a floured surface, roll out one portion into a 12 inch diameter circle.

Let it rest for a few minutes, as this will help the dough relax and prevents it from springing back in the next step when cutting.

Then using a pizza slicing wheel cut out 12 triangles. If they spring back just make sure to flatten them out.

Line a 16 inch pizza baking pan with parchment paper and place a bowl in the center that has a 5 inch diameter base.

Carefully arrange the triangles forming a ring, with the wide ends of triangles placed around the 5 inch bowl, making sure to overlap the triangles a little.

Once all the triangles are placed around the bowl it should look like a sun with the pointed ends of the triangles toward the outer edges of the pan.

Scatter 1/4th of the shredded cheese all around the bowl and over the wider portion of the triangles, where they overlap.

Then place half the tuna filling mixture over the cheese and all around the bowl.

Cover another 1/4th of the cheese over the tuna filling.

Bring each pointed end of the dough triangle over the filling and tuck it under the wider side of the triangle in the ring. Secure it well.

Repeat the above step all around the ring covering the filling. Remember that some filling will show between the gaps.

Bake for 20 to 25 minutes until the dough is golden brown and baked well.

Repeat the steps with the other half of the dough and filling to make a second Tuna Melt Crescent Ring.

Allow to cool for 5 to 10 minutes before serving.

ASSEMBLY OF TUNA MELT CRESCENT RING

Carefully transfer the crescent ring to a serving platter using the help of a wide and long serving utensil or a flat cake lifter if needed.

Mix all the ingredients for the lemon dill sauce and adjust the seasoning as per taste.

Transfer the dill sauce to a little serving bowl and place it in the center of the ring. Slice and enjoy.

SERVING THE TUNA MELT CRESCENT RING

An old-fashioned lunch, this Classic Tuna Melt is a quick, diner-style recipe that you can put together in minutes and is so delicious!

Classic Tuna Melt

tuna (drained (2 5 oz cans))

onion

pepper

rib celery (diced)

green onion (finely sliced)

cheddar cheese

tomato

bread

Tablespoons salted butter (softened)

After draining the tuna thoroughly, place it into a medium bowl. Use a fork to break it up really well.

Mix mayonnaise, onion, lemon juice, salt, pepper, celery and green onion with the tuna.

Heat a skillet to medium-low heat. Spread butter on one slice of bread.

Place this piece of bread, butter side down, into the skillet. Add about ½ cup of the tuna mixture and spread it to the edges of the bread.

Add slices of tomato and a slice of cheese.

Butter on one side of another piece of bread. Place this piece of bread (butter side up) on top of the cheese. (The butter goes on the outside of the sandwich so that it will toast nicely.) Then carefully flip the sandwich with a spatula to grill both sides.

Cook the sandwich in the skillet at medium-low heat until the cheese is melted and the bread is toasted.

Drain the tuna. Place it in a bowl and use a fork to break apart any large clumps. Finely chop the red onion and dill pickles, and mince the parsley. Add the vegetables to the bowl with the tuna, along with the dried tarragon or dill, mayonnaise, Dijon mustard and salt. Stir to combine. 

Spread the outsides of the bread slices with mayonnaise or butter. Assemble the sandwiches: on each slice of bread (buttered side out) place the tuna salad filling, a tomato slice, and 2 slices of cheddar cheese, then top with the other slice of bread. 

Preheat a skillet over medium heat (cast iron works well if you have it). Cook the sandwich 2 to 3 minutes, then carefully flip and cook about 2 minutes more until browned and the cheese is melted. Serve immediately.
