Air Fryer Croutons (BEST texture!)

Prepare bread- Cut your bread into 1 to 1 ½ inch cubes. Day old bread is easier to cut, if you have fresh bread, you may want to tear it using your hands. You&#039;ll need 4 cups of bread cubes for this recipe, which is roughly half of a boule of sourdough.

Season

Season bread cubes- Toss the bread cubes in olive oil until evenly coated, then add the garlic powder, onion powder and salt. Toss well.

Cook

Cook- Pre-heat your air fryer at 400°F/200°C for at least 5 minutes. Add the bread cubes to the basket or tray, and cook for 3-5 minutes*, shaking occasionally. Depending on how closely together your breadcrumbs are positioned, you may need to cook for up to 7-8 minutes.*if you are using an air fryer oven, place the croutons on the lowest tray.

Serve

Serve- Croutons are ready when they are golden brown all over (as shown above). Cool slightly before adding to your salad.

Air Fryer Croutons

Crunchy croutons made with just 3 ingredients using day old bread is easy to make at home.  You will never get store bought croutons again.

How to make croutons

Baguette (Long baguette that is day old)

Tbsp Extra virgin olive oil (or avocado oil)

Tbsp Dill (Fresh dill, finely chopped)

tsp Sea salt (optional)

Cooking spray

Oven

Cut the baguette into big pieces (about 2inches)

Use cooking spray to oil the baking tray

Spread the bread pieces out on the oiled baking dish

Drizzle extra virgin olive oil over the bread pieces

Top with dill and salt

Place the baking tray in the oven

Roast for 20 minutes

Remove tray from oven and let it cool to touch

Homemade Sourdough Croutons 

sourdough bread (3/4-inch bread

olive oil

salt and pepper

garlic onion powder

In a bowl, toss the cubed bread with olive oil (see notes for a lighter version). If using a different quantity of bread, just lightly coat the bread in olive oil.

Sprinkle with a generous pinch of salt and pepper and any optional additions.

Bake 10-12 minutes, give a stir and continue baking until golden, another 3-5 minutes.

Let cool completely. Store in a sealed container for up to 2 weeks.

Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Pull the bread into crouton-y sized chunks.

Coat a large saute pan with olive oil. I used approximately 3 tablespoons olive oil, but you can use more if need be.

Add in the garlic and red pepper and cook over medium heat. Cook until transluscent and fragrant, about 3 minutes.

Toss in the bread cubes and stir to coat in the oil and spices.

Continue to cook and stir until the bread is crusty, golden, and fully crisped.

Remove from the heat and allow to cool completely before storing in an airtight container.

Our homemade Vegan Croutons are super easy to make and require no effort. They are made with olive oil and Italian herbs for an authentic Mediterranean flavour profile.

Vegan Croutons

Easy Homemade Vegan Croutons

Pre-heat the oven to

Line a baking sheet

Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Place the bread cubes

Place the bread cubes on the baking sheet and drizzle with olive oil. Sprinkle the herbs, garlic powder if using, salt and peppercorn.

Using your hands toss

Using your hands toss the bread cubes together so the oil and herbs are evently distributed.

Spread the bread cubes

Spread the bread cubes out evenly and bake in the centre of the oven for 5 minutes.

Check the vegan croutons

Check the vegan croutons to see if they are done according to your liking. I like to turn them around at this point and bake them for another 3-5 minutes.

Remove from oven and

Remove from oven and allow them to cool at room temperature or feel free to use them in your dish right away.

Store in an airtight

Store in an airtight container for up to 5 days.

How to make Vegan Croutons

These Homemade Croutons with Garlic and Herbs are perfectly crunchy and flavorful and make a great addition to your salads or soups!

Homemade Croutons with Garlic and Herbs

olive oil or melted butter

Pre-heat your oven to 375 degrees F.  I like to bake them at a lower temperature for a little longer, rather than a high temperature for a shorter amount of time.  I feel like this ensures that the outside won&#8217;t burn before they are cooked through.

Cut your bread into little bite sized cubes.  I like to use a bread knife to the cut the bread into slices and then use a regular knife to cut the slices into cubes.  You can make them however large or small you prefer, it just may change cooking time if they&#8217;re really small or really large.

Add the bread to a large baking sheet.  You can either just add all the ingredients right to the pan with the bread and mix together or,  In a small bowl, add the olive oil, nutritional yeast, dried herbs, granulated garlic and salt.  Mix well util you have a paste and then pour over the bread.  Use your hands to mix everything together and make sure that the bread is as evenly coated as you can get it.

Place the sheet pan in the oven and bake until croutons are crispy, about 25-30 minutes, stirring a couple of times.  I like to leave mine a little bit soft on the inside so they have some chew to them but you can make them completely crispy if you desire.  Remove from the oven and let cool before enjoying.

Evenly arrange the bread cubes on a sheet pan in one single layer. Drizzle with some of the olive oil to coat. Sprinkle with garlic powder, fresh dill, and Parmesan cheese. Season with salt and pepper.

I've made croutons for years the same way you do above, minus the dill and parmesan.  My kids (now young adults) still crave them.  Whenever we would travel, I'd make a batch and pack small baggies of croutons for them.  The smell of garlic would waft through the airplane cabin making everyone hungry.  It kept them quiet and busy...at least for awhile.

Recipe was great overall! But if you use a small oven that doubles as an air fryer, it will be done by 9 mins, or so I assume. Mines started to burn after 11 mins, so I think 9 mins would be perfect. I think my oven just runs very hot. But still, they were deliciously perfect for my Cesar salad!!
