Let’s make cold brew coffee! It’s easy to make, and it’s so nice to have coffee ready to go. This recipe is written for a 1-quart wide-mouth mason jar; you can scale it up or down using 1 ounce* (28 grams) coffee per 1 cup water. The quantities provided will produce about 2 1/2 cups concentrate, which is enough for 5 cups of cold brew.

Cold Brew Coffee

(85 grams) coarsely-ground coffee (that’s beans

water (filtered water if you have it)

In a 1-quart wide-mouth mason jar, combine the coffee and water. Stir to combine. I like to let my mixture rest for about 5 minutes and stir it again; the coffee grounds seem to gain more water exposure this way.

Put a lid on your container and refrigerate it for 12 to 18 hours.

When you’re ready to strain your cold brew, place a thin paper coffee filter or a small, thin cotton napkin, cloth or handkerchief over a small fine-mesh sieve. Pour the concentrate through the prepared sieve into a liquid measuring cup or pitcher. Let it rest for a few minutes to let the last of the cold brew trickle down.

To serve, fill a glass with ice and fill it halfway with water. Then fill the rest of the glass with cold brew concentrate, and stir to combine. Cold brew concentrate will keep well in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks, although I find that it has the best flavor within the first week.

This was a revelation for me. Perfect taste following the recipe- thank you! Enjoyed it so much more than the hot coffee I brew at home. I'm going to be keeping this in the fridge permanently.

Decided over christmas to make cold brew as a change, and wow what a change. Without doubt the nicest coffee i have ever tasted, and one cup is now not enough. Great article, lot's of good tips. I love the 1oz coffee for 1cup water suggestion for a 2x coffee concentrate. I noticed that you say the whole beans turn into a larger volume of ground and I think you have it backwards:
"1/4 cup whole coffee beans, which yields roughly 1/2 cup ground coffee" this should be 1/2 C whole beans yeilds 1/4 cup ground, right?

Love this Recipe. Used a very strong dark roast, and steeped for 36 hours. I got the perfect amount of bitter as well as the more subtle flavors that I don't always notice when I drink it hot.

I used finely ground coffee because I didn't have coarse coffee grounds. I did use a French press. I did three ounces of coffee to 3 cups of water. It steeped for 18 hours. It rendered 500 ml. I added 500 ml of water and diluted it. It came out great!!! Thank you for the recipe.

Here at home (Zapopan, Jalisco) we do kombucha y keifer, and use the clean, old transparent curtains cut into squares for the filters over a strainer.  The work well, clean up easily with some stain, but do not absorb the color heavily and dry fast.

Hey Kate, I am loving the recipe and the ratio you have chosen! I just had a question about how much caffeine you estimate would be in a serving of cold brew (1 cup water and 28g coffee) with the rest being diluted by equal parts water. I like the peace of mind knowing how much caffeine I’m getting so I don’t go overboard.

We are staying home in NJ. With a lot of time on our hands and no trips to Starbucks, I attempted cold brew for the first time. Fortunately, my local grocery still had coffee beans and a grinder available to me! I followed the recipe exactly.  The coffee measure is not 6 ounces in a measuring cup.  Just as the directions say, it's a 6 oz weight using a kitchen scale, which indeed comes to just about 1.5 cups of measured coffee.  I weight out my grounds to 6 oz. and that's about how much there was (give or take a little).  The resulting cold brew received approval from my daughters. I actually got the question "Is there more coffee to make it again?" Doesn't get better than that.  Thanks for the recipe!

Make the salted cream cold foam: Add the skim milk, Kosher salt, and ½ tablespoon of the maple syrup to a milk frother. Using the frother’s cold froth setting, froth the salted cream until thick and creamy. I do 2 cycles of cold frothing using my Nespresso frother, about 2 minutes. If you do not have a frother, you can also add everything into a jar and shake it until it gets whipped &amp; frothy.

Make the salted cream cold foam cold brew coffee

Add the cold brew to a glass, over ice. Stir in the remaining ½ tablespoon maple syrup. If you like a sweeter cold brew coffee, go ahead and add in a little extra maple syrup. If you like unsweetened cold brew coffee, feel free to leave it out. Pour or spoon the salted cream cold foam over top. Enjoy!

This is the first recipe from Jess that I ever found and what brought me into the PWWB world, and I'm so glad! The perfect touch of saltiness and sweetness without going overboard, and good points/research on type of milk - I usually use half and half but her note about skim milk frothing better was key!

I've been craving this Starbucks order for three weeks now (due to shelter-in-place)!! This is THE recipe. Others I've tried call for caramel syrup in the foam and it doesn't give it the same flavor. All I have is half and half and 2% milk, so I'm excited to see how frothy it can be when I try with skim. Perfect balance of sweet and salty. Vanilla Sweet Cream Cold Brew

Make the cold brew coffee by mixing water and coffee grinds together in a large pitcher. Let sit overnight in the fridge for at least 12 hours (or up to 48 hours if desired). 

When ready to serve, slowly pour coffee through cheesecloth that is sitting in a fine mesh sieve into another large pitcher. Make sure you pour slowly and with precision to ensure there are no coffee grounds in the cold brew.

Cold brew coffee

Add one cup boiling water and 1 cup sugar to a mason jar, stirring well. Add vanilla bean, then let cool to room temperature. Remove vanilla bean, then store in the fridge up to 2 months. Alternatively, use vanilla extract.

Vanilla syrup

Mix all ingredients under sweet cream heading together well in a large mixing cup. If you&#039;d like the frothy texture, use an immersion blender or milk frother to mix up ingredients - if choosing this method, be sure to add to your cold brew ASAP!

Sweet cream

Add a handful of ice to a large glass or mason jar, then mix in 2 tbsp of vanilla syrup. Top with 2 cups of coffee, then add 1/4 cup of sweet cream on top. Serve and enjoy!

Add the water and ground coffee beans to a mason jar or other glass storage container. Then, leave it on your counter to steep for 12-15 hours. 

Strain

Strain the coffee through a fine mesh sieve that&#039;s lined with a couple layers of cheesecloth over a large measuring cup or bowl. Alternatively, you could use a nut-milk bag or coffee filter on top of the sieve. 

Store

Pour the strained cold brew concentrate back into a clean mason jar and store in the refrigerator.&nbsp;

Serve

To serve, pour the cold brew concentrate over ice, with water or with your favorite milk or creamer.&nbsp;

Quick and easy recipe for a Starbucks Salted Caramel Cold Brew drink. This cold brew coffee is flavored with caramel syrup and topped with fluffy vanilla sweet cream cold foam. A sprinkle of salt finishes off this delicious Starbucks copycat.

Easy Cold Brew Coffee

Grind whole coffee beans, OR use any previously ground coffee you have on hand

Place 1 cup coffee grounds in a covered bowl or pitcher. Cover with 6 cups cold water.

Stir up the grounds so they are all wet and mixed fairly well.

Let coffee grounds and water sit in the fridge for at least 8 hours (I usually let it sit for 12 hours).&nbsp;

Pour the coffee and grounds through a fine-mesh nut-milk bag or layered cheesecloth to separate the coffee from the grounds.&nbsp;

This coffee is concentrated a bit, so it's usually double strength. I prepare my cold brewed coffee this way: 1/2 cup coffee concentrate + 1/2 cup unsweetened almondmilk + Stevia drops

To serve: mix with as much unsweetened non-dairy milk or creamer as you like. Since this is concentrated, I usually use equal parts cold brew coffee concentrate and almondmilk

How to brew a cold brew concentrate using the Toddy Cold Brew Coffee Maker. This method allows you to dilute the brewed coffee with water, milk and a whole host of other ingredients.

Wet the filter and insert it into the groove inside the brewer. Don&#x27;t forget to insert the plug in the bottom.

(Optional, but recommended) Add the paper filter bag to the brewer. The brewer will work without this, but it helps to extract more from the coffee, and makes clean up a whole lot easier.

Grind the coffee coarse (between filter &amp; french press / plunger) and add to the brewer

Pour filtered water over the grounds, try to wet them as evenly as possible. If you&#x27;re using the paper filter bag stir the coffee to make sure the grounds are completely wet. If you&#x27;re not using the bag, don&#x27;t stir the coffee as the fine grinds can block the smaller filter -  just pat any dry grounds you can see with the back of a spoon.
