This chicory coffee recipe from Commander's Palace will transport you directly to New Orleans. You can make it as milky or sweet as you want. 

Cold-Brew Chicory Coffee

chicory coffee blend (1½ cups)

If you like your cold brew black, skip the sweetened condensed milk. If you want it extra sweet, add both cans. We like it somewhere in between. This recipe is from Commander's Palace in New Orleans, LA. Read more about the restaurant's legendary Family Meal here.

Place coffee in a large bowl and add 8 cups cold water. Stir gently to make sure all of the grounds are moistened. Chill overnight.

Line a sieve with a coffee filter and place over a pitcher. Strain coffee into pitcher (do not stir); discard solids. Stir in 1 can sweetened condensed milk and vanilla extract. If you like your coffee sweeter, add more milk.

Do Ahead: Strained cold brew can be made 1 week ahead. Cover and chill. Add milk and vanilla just before serving.

Copycat Starbucks Vanilla Sweet Cream Cold Brew

maple syrup (or agave)

tbsp vanilla sweet cream

If you haven't already, you'll need to make the cold brew. I let mine soak for 16-20 hours. I use 4 oz (1/2 cup) of coffee beans and grind them fresh for the best flavor. Mix this with ~4 cups of water.

Strain the grounds out of the liquid after the soak is done.

Making the Cold Brew

In a sealable container, mix together the half and half, vanilla extract, and maple syrup.

Mix vigorously with a spoon, or if you can screw the lid tight, give it a good shake.

Making the Vanilla Sweet Cream

In a glass start pour the cold brew coffee, water, and cream. Mix together. If you like less creamy, sweet coffee, use 2 tablespoons of the creamer to start. Add more to taste. Top with ice and enjoy. (I find that 4 tablespoons is enough to get the Starbucks flavor), but go off your own taste.

The remaining sweet cream can be stored in the fridge for 5 days.

How to make cold brew concentrate at home, with ratio adjustments to customize based on your preference.

Cold Brew Coffee Concentrate

water ((24 ounces))

coffee ((4.5 ounces))

water : ½ cup ground coffee

water : ⅔ cup ground coffee

water + 2 cups coffee grounds

Measurements based on standard conversions

Add water to a large bowl. Pour in coffee grounds and stir to combine.

Cover and steep in the fridge for 12-24 hours*.

After steeping, strain through a fine mesh sieve, lined with a double layer of coffee filters (or a clean handkerchief, T-shirt, or nut milk bag). Pour in batches as needed, stirring gently to help the liquid strain.

Once strained, transfer DIY cold brew into a mason jar or airtight container and store in the fridge.

Best served diluted at a 1:1 ratio with water, depending on how strong you like it. (For example, mix ½ cup water with ½ cup concentrate.)

Yields 2½ cups (20 oz) cold brew concentrate.

Make the cold brew coffee by mixing water and coffee grinds together in a large pitcher. Let sit overnight in the fridge for at least 12 hours (or up to 48 hours if desired).

When ready to serve, slowly pour coffee through cheesecloth that is sitting in a fine mesh sieve into another large pitcher. Make sure you pour slowly and with precision to ensure there are no coffee grounds in the cold brew.

Cold brew coffee

Add one cup boiling water and 1 cup sugar to a mason jar, stirring well. Stir in vanilla, then let cool to room temperature. Store in the fridge up to 2 months.

Vanilla syrup

Mix all ingredients together for spice mix and store in an airtight container until ready to use. Will last for 3 months.

Pumpkin spice mix

Mix all ingredients together well in a large mixing cup. If you&#x27;d like the frothy texture, use an immersion blender or milk frother to mix up ingredients - if choosing this method, be sure to add to your cold brew ASAP!

Pumpkin cream

Add a handful of ice to a large glass or mason jar, then mix in 2 tbsp of vanilla syrup. Top with 2 cups of coffee, then add 1/4 cup of pumpkin cream on top. Before mixing, sprinkle with pumpkin spice mix. Serve and enjoy!

To make the toasted coconut coffee syrup: Preheat oven to 425° F and adjust the top rack to the second notch from the top of the oven. Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone mat and spread the coconut out in an even layer. Toast the coconut for 7-10 minutes until nicely browned and toasted, tossing after 5 minutes. Watch the coconut carefully as it can burn easily.

Stir the sugar and water together in a small saucepan and bring the mixture to a simmer over medium-high heat. Simmer for 5 minutes, remove from the heat, and stir in the warm toasted coconut. Cover and allow the coconut to steep in the syrup for 30 minutes. Pour the syrup through a fine mesh strainer into a mason jar or resealable glass bottle to cool. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours before using. There may be some coconut residue in the syrup; if that bothers you, strain the syrup once more and if not, shake before adding to your coffee.

Make vanilla syrup.Stir together hot water, vanilla extract, and sugar until sugar dissolves. The finer the sugar, the quicker it will dissolve so avoid using raw or turbinado sugar.

Make cream topping.Whisk heavy cream and vanilla syrup until it thickens using a handheld milk frother. (This is my secret to making whipped cream for drinks in seconds.)

Stir together coffee, vanilla syrup, and milk.

Assemble drink.Pour vanilla latte into a cup of ice and spoon on the cream topping.

Easy Cold Brew Coffee Recipe

Grind

Grind your coffee beans to a medium coarse consistency. 

Add the water and ground coffee beans to a mason jar or other glass storage container. Then, leave it on your counter to steep for 12-15 hours. 

Strain

Strain the coffee through a fine mesh sieve that&#039;s lined with a couple layers of cheesecloth over a large measuring cup or bowl. Alternatively, you could use a nut-milk bag or coffee filter on top of the sieve. 

Store

Pour the strained cold brew concentrate back into a clean mason jar and store in the refrigerator.&nbsp;

Serve

To serve, pour the cold brew concentrate over ice, with water or with your favorite milk or creamer.&nbsp;

In a medium sized mixing bowl, pour in the non-fat milk, heavy cream, vanilla extract, and sweetened condensed milk. Using a whisk or electric whisk, whip the milk until it has large bubbles, and then becomes thick and smooth.

Add the pumpkin puree, pumpkin spice, and a pinch of salt. Optionally, add more sugar per taste and annatto (dye) if desired. Continue to whip until fully combined and the foam has thickened, just before it forms soft peaks.

Fill a cup with ice, and pour in half of the brewed coffee over the ice. Optionally, add milk of choice to the coffee. Slowly pour in the pumpkin cream cold foam over the coffee.

Sprinkle additional pumpkin spice over the cold foam and enjoy!

Here's my complete recipe for vanilla sweet cream cold foam. It's the exact ingredients and proportions Starbucks uses.

Just combine heavy cream, milk and vanilla syrup to make a bottle of this sweet creamer. Then turn only the amount you need for a drink into cold foam.

Also referred to as Japanese ice coffee, hot cold brew is a hybrid quaff and my go-to when I&#039;m in a hurry. Basically, we brew with hot water to quickly extract flavor and aroma compounds from the ground coffee then, immediately chill the resulting liquid, thus preserving aromatics and arresting some of the oxidation and degradation of acids. When the dripping&#039;s done, you can strain out the ice for a stronger brew, or enjoy on the rocks. This recipe first appeared in Season 2 of Good Eats: The Return.

Hot Start Cold Brew

filtered water, heated to 200°F in an electric kettle

Assemble a pour-over coffee rig using a carafe, filter holder, and filter set on a digital kitchen scale.

Place the coffee inthe filter and the ice in the carafe.

Very slowly pour 100 grams of the water over the coffee in a spiral pattern. This step should take about 1 minute. Let the coffee sit for 30 to 40 seconds to bloom. Tare the scale, then, working in three batches, very slowly pour over the remaining 175 grams water in the same spiral pattern over the coffee. This step should take 2 to 3 minutes total. If using an electric kettle with a thermostat, return the kettle to the heater in between batches.

When the coffee is finished brewing, remove the filter holder and discard to compost the grounds.Serve the coffee with any remaining ice, or strain it out for a stronger brew.
